I've got a friend who records videos.
He made one yesterday. In which he stated how much he LOVES freedom. Yet he feels as if his vision of HIM attaining it, might never be realized. He said - and I'm paraphrasing here: 'No matter how hard I work? I mean toward my goal of quitting my job and being self-sufficient? I seem to get nowhere! It's just one step forward and two back. I think I need a bit of encouragement today. Anybody out there?'
Here's my response:
''It's always good to see a man with a vision, ______. You're one of them. Which reminds me: It was Psychologist William James who wrote, 'There is a law in psychology that if you form a picture in your mind of what you would like to be, and you hold that picture there for long enough, you will soon become EXACTLY as you have been thinking.'
I tend to agree with that. Though we live in a world that increasingly - by the day it seems! - tries to thwart a man with vision. Yet he can't give up. Nor can he allow the opinions of others to 'rope him in.' Not even in this matrix of a system gone mad. As: If he even considered quitting? I'm betting he'd be depressed as hell.
And THAT I'd say, 'is not an option.''
I'm a lover of personal freedom too. So much so that I left the U.S. to live in a third world country. Where the cost of living is quite a bit lower. Where I can work on my web projects and live a quiet, modest life. And where I can - in my own small way - reap the rewards of many years spent doing 'back breaking' manual labor.
I know how it feels to put your attention and effort into a project - which only seems to 'fall flat.' It's happened to me. Yet that quote by James above, has ALWAYS encouraged me to get back to the task at hand. Keep that quote handy. No matter how far away from your vision you might seem. James' words will help redirect your focus. And as a result: Act as a motivator. Inspire good action! And, get you one step closer...
To making that vision of yours a reality.

P.S. Want to REALLY curb depression? Then follow James' advice above: Never give up on your vision. Plus, I'd add: Read my book CONFESSIONS OF A SUPER-FIT VEGAN. In which you'll discover EXACTLY how I transformed myself from a sick, depressed, out-of-shape drug addict - into a healthy, happy, fitness machine! You can do the EXACT same thing, my friend.
